Job Description

  • The Vice President, Compliance and Privacy Operations will serve as the head of the operations component of Steward’s Office of Corporate Compliance & Privacy (OCCP) which includes staff principally responsible for system-wide development and implementation of the following compliance and privacy program elements: risk assessments; revenue integrity and other compliance auditing; policies & procedures; program training; communications; and metrics (OCCP’s Operations Team).

  • This position reports to the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) for Steward Health Care System (Steward). The Vice President, Compliance and Privacy Operations needs to be a person of high integrity, and any other duties assigned should not be in conflict with Steward’s compliance program goals and objectives. This position will be based in Westwood, MA and will require some travel to other Steward locations as needed.

  • The Vice President, Compliance & Privacy Operations is a senior level position and will be an integral part of the OCCP leadership team for Steward together with the CCO and the System Deputy Compliance and Privacy Officers in each region.

  • This position is responsible for driving compliance program “operational excellence” (i.e., standardization, scalability, effectiveness and efficiency) system-wide. Furthermore, this position will be responsible for adapting the capability of the OCCP Operations Team to meet an evolving landscape of regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Knowledge and experience with all general health care compliance and privacy regulations required.

  • Familiarity with operational, financial and information technology security regulations a must.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership and analytical skills and the ability to function effectively in a fast- paced environment.

  • Compliance auditing and investigation competencies and experience a must.

  • Strong oral/written communication and presentation skills a must.

  • Ability to prioritize and plan work independently.

  • Able to interact effectively with all levels of management.

  • Effectively work with and coordinate the activities of external consultants and legal counsel.

  • Ability to anticipate potential issues and proactively respond.

  • Good judgment and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  1. Education: A bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree desired

  2. Experience: A minimum of 5 years experience in health care, to include demonstrated management and leadership in compliance. For profit health care experience a plus.

  3. Certification/Licensure: Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) and Healthcare Privacy (CHPC) required.

  4. Software/Hardware: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and PowerPoint Skills Required. Microsoft Access Skills preferred.

  5. Other: Travel Requirements:

    • The ability to travel regionally and nationally

    • Must have a valid driver's license, provide own transportation, and be able to travel to Steward locations using a variety of modes of transportation
