Steward Medical Group at Hawthorn Medical Associates seeks an enthusiastic Lead Ultrasound Technologist

The successful candidate will:

Under the supervision of the Radiology Manager and according to established policies and procedures, coordinates the activities of the Ultrasound (U/S) section of the Radiology Imaging Department and its technologists. Functions as a lead resource person in providing technical guidance and instruction necessary for the efficient operation of the unit and patient care. Works with service personnel to assure equipment is maintained to provide quality imaging. Responsible for QA/QC and appropriate record keeping to meet ACR and AIUM requirements. Maintains the daily flow of the department to provide timely quality service to the ordering Physicians. Regularly performs all the functions of an Ultrasound Technologist.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Operates ultrasound imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information. In doing so, ensures the patient is properly prepared, obtains a relevant patient history and assures proper positioning. Selects proper imaging techniques and follows department protocols in order to provide a complete study for the exam requested. Provides complete documentation of the exam and provides the Radiologist with an initial interpretation.
  1. Correlates medical history with test required and decides the correct performance of examination.
  1. When supplied medical history is not adequate, the technologist will proceed with telephone communication to the ordering physician regarding the exam, patient history, and/or other relevant information required to perform the exam.
  1. Explains the exam to the patient, taking into consideration the physical and emotional needs. Follows HIPAA standards to maintain patient privacy and disclosure of protected patient information.
  1. Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately and professionally with all types of patients as well as associates. Uses independent judgment in pressure situations to obtain proper outcome.
  1. Remain flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations, as they become necessary.
  1. Verifies operation of all ultrasound equipment to be used during the workday. Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs as needed.
  2. Demonstrates competency in all RIS applications. Especially pertaining to patient exam status and tracking. Edit any/all examinations in RIS prior to radiologist dictation.
  1. Executes paperwork as necessary for each patient exam, including but not limited to CPT codes and checking all Physician order sheets prior to the patient exam.
  1. May be called upon to oversee and instruct various personnel and students as assigned and deemed necessary by the Imaging Supervisor.

QUALIFICATION:

  1. Documented training and experience in Ultrasonography.
  1. 5 years of Ultrasound experience preferred.

3. Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and/or ARRT in Sonography.

4. Current BLS certification.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and /or emotional stress.

2. Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging process techniques, and procedures and cross-sectional anatomy.

3. Presents a positive attitude and a professional appearance in compliance with the dress code policy.

4. Must be physically capable of lifting linens, supplies, patients while utilizing proper body mechanics.

5. Must be aware of hazards within the department and adhere to safety standards as stated by OSHA.

6. Maintains CPR certification and is capable of initiating emergency life support actions as necessary. Knows the location of all emergency drugs and supplies. Participates in the monitoring of emergency supplies including expiration dates.
