Steward Medical Group (SMG), Inc. is Steward's multi-specialty group practice with over 4,500 employees including over 1,800 physicians and advanced practitioners. SMG operates approximately 450 practice locations throughout Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, and provides more than 4 million patient encounters per year.

Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller oversees and directs the Accounting team and all other financial business office functions for SMG. This position oversees the proper accounting of all financial transactions and accumulates records, analyzes and reports financial information to management and provides necessary financial reports to other entities within Steward Health Care System. The Controller initiates strategies and goals within SMG to ensure that these functions are integrated in a way to achieve the highest standards in program quality, productivity and financial management.

Responsibilities:
• Oversees the preparation of the SMG annual budget and periodic financial forecasts
• Prepares various regularly scheduled and ad-hoc financial management reports
• Working closely with Steward corporate accounting staff, leads and centrally administers all matters pertaining to the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes
• Collaborates with the SMG Analytics department to fulfill defined and ad-hoc reporting responsibilities
• Advises and assists non-financial SMG leadership and managers on proper accounting and financial management practices related to carrying out their assigned duties as stewards of SMG’s business operations
• Approves check requests up to financial limits as defined by Steward Health Care and the SMG CFO
• Devises and recommends new or modified accounting systems, processes, procedures, and controls to provide complete and accurate financial and statistical reports
• Oversees and advises Steward corporate accounting related to the processing of SMG intercompany transfers with other Steward entities
• Maintains strong working relationships with, and supports the members of, the SMG Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
• Oversees SMG accounting members in order to efficiently and effectively carry out all duties as assigned herein
• All other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Knowledge & Skills
• Possess strong analytic and technical skills, including a strong foundation of financial data and modeling
• Possess a strong knowledge of accounting concepts and familiarity with accounting processes and procedures
• Organizational skills to manage multiple projects through effective planning and time management
• Knowledge of managed care concepts and the financial relationships between health plans and providers
• An understanding of payor claims data
• Creative, flexible, and self-motivated with sound judgment; ability to plan and implement


Education/Experience/Etc.:
• Bachelor's degree in relevant field required, Master’s preferred
• 3-5+ years’ experience in finance or healthcare, with significant experience in analytic functions
• CPA strongly preferred
• MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT), Access, and/or other query/analytic tools
